Chair Yoga with Jung:
Exploring Jung’s Wisdom on Yoga Through Discussion and Embodied Practice
Facilitated by Dr. Dario Nardi
C. G. Jung saw yoga as far more than a system of physical exercise. He saw it as a sophisticated approach to self-knowledge—one that brought together psyche, body, breath, attention, and the deeper process of psychological development.
In this 90-minute experiential workshop, we will spend half of our time together exploring Jung’s own words about yoga, including insights from his remarkable 1932 seminars on Kundalini Yoga.
We will discuss what attracted Jung to yoga, where he expressed caution, and how yogic ideas contributed to his developing understanding of individuation, the unconscious, and the Self.
The other half of our time introduces four chair-yoga practices, each designed to evoke a different energetic and psychological way of being. Rather than trying to achieve difficult poses, we will use posture, movement, breath, and attention to experiment with different sides of ourselves—and consider what embodied practices can contribute to psychological type development.
No yoga experience, special clothing, flexibility, or equipment is needed. All four exercises can be done seated in an ordinary chair. The aim is not to teach a yoga class so much as to experience firsthand something Jung considered important: psychological development involves more than thinking about ourselves. Sometimes we learn by changing how we inhabit the body.
You will:
Discover why Jung took yoga seriously and how it influenced the development of his ideas.
Learn key insights from Jung’s 1932 Kundalini Yoga seminars and their relevance today.
Experience four accessible chair-yoga practices that evoke contrasting energetic ways of being.
Consider type and personal development as embodied processes, not merely cognitive ones.
Leave with simple practices to access less-familiar sides of yourself in everyday life.

Actualization: The Self
Presented by John Beebe MD
The self is the totality of the psyche including conscious and unconscious. When, intermittently, we are able to draw on that wholistic perspective, we are much more likely to know what is best to do in a given situation. A fully developed function of consciousness creates some of that ability.
Program takeaways:
The story arc through which each of the types of consciousness can develop and become more fully adaptive to situations.
What the introverted intuitive function can uniquely do at its most developed stage.
How differently the introverted feeling function expresses itself between its rudimentary beginnings and its most actualized state.
The unexpectedly compelling quality of extraverted thinking in the stage of the self.

Type in Service of the Self:
The 8 Jungian Functions as a Means to Individuation
Presented by Dr. Dario Nardi
What happens as our psychological type develops beyond persona and ego?
In this extended Jungian workshop, we will explore the self, and Self, in Jungian psychology, and consider how the eight functions can express themselves not merely as personality preferences, but in service of a deeper process of individuation.
We will begin with a map of the Jungian psyche—including ego, persona, shadow, anima/animus, archetypes, symbolic imagery, the Self, individuation, and unio mystica—and then bring these ideas to life through scenes from "The Map of Tiny Perfect Things", "Annihilation", and "Beef" (season 1). Each of these offers a strikingly different picture of what happens when we encounter another person, our shadow, our opposite, and ultimately something larger, unfamiliar, and challenging to the ego.
Film clips, reflection questions, and group discussion will help us connect Jung's ideas with our own lives and with the development of the eight functions. Note: There are 3 downloadable articles, one for each media piece. And there are 2 optional watch parties before the workshop to see "Map" (PG-13) and "Annihilation" (R).
You will:
See where ego, persona, shadow, and Self sit within Jung's larger model of the psyche.
Explore how the eight functions can develop beyond habitual or ego-centered expressions and increasingly serve individuation.
Recognize the role of projection, relationship, and anima/animus in encounters with unfamiliar parts of ourselves.
Use three contemporary stories to explore very different pathways to a greater wholeness and s/Self.
Reflect on where their own psychological development may be asking them to move beyond their type.
